Ok, so there is a way this SHOULD work, but literally everything i talk about is hypothetical or theoretical so have your salt shaker ready.
So you know how bass waves travel through walls, and you can hear club music a block away? I see these things as existing along those kinds of waves relative to our Visible existence spectrum. Like lower and more penetratable, the equivalent of inferared. I don't think that these things could necessarily reach in and directly control speech unless they had some kind of higher octave agent that could do some top down manifestation.
The entire group could be a song-form, or part of it. The specific communications could be very harmonized overtones of experience veiling the staff and leading them to only hear or respond to certain things?
But, mind control would have to be subtle. Song-forms would be present more in the plane of like events and experientiality than actual words and speech. They could communicate by making beats out of happenstance, which we call synchronicity, or tones of atmospheric state. Fluctuations in mood pressure. What I'm saying is I don't think they can beam precise words.
I actually don't completely know what I'm talking about, ive never contemplated these things working backwards from something like this, I've only ever considered it like theoretically.
I only have a hammer right now and this situation is looking pretty screwy. This is gonna bug me.
